Easily done by cutting a section of vinyl tubing (Home Depot etc, a buck or two), splitting it with a knife, and sliding it over the drive rod.

I settled on the 5/8" size as a compromise between 1/2" and 3/4" for my " diameter 1 gallon jar. I think the added weight over the 1/2" balls will be a little more efficient.
